After the second merit list was declared on July 22, many seats are vacant and very few seats are left in prominent colleges like R.A.Podar, Jai Hind College and HR College.

The second merit list for First Year Junior College (FYJC) was released on July 22 which had over 1.85 lakh applicants from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). As the SSC students had scored less on an average as compared to their counterparts Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the state government had increased the number of seats in many colleges.

However, after the second merit list was released and students confirmed their admission, 1.87 lakh FYJC seats are still vacant, whereas, prominent colleges like Jai Hind College, HR College and St. Xaviers have very few seats left. 

St. Xavier's College in Fort, which is best known for its Arts stream, has only one seat vacant after the end of two rounds. The cut off for second merit list was 93.4 per cent at St. Xavier's for Arts. Notably, all the 929 seats from R.A. Podar college have been filled after the two rounds. The data from the Education Department has stated that the Arts stream has the least number of vacant seats followed by Science.  The third merit list will be declared at 6:00 pm on August 1.
