As per reports, more than 2.42 lakh seats remain vacant in the first-year junior college admissions after the first round of online acceptance.

According to the information shared by the Maharashtra school education department, a total of 3.2 lakh seats were available for admissions, including 2 lakh seats for online admissions. However, the vacant seats will be filled in the second round of admission. Moreover, the second merit list will be released on December 5. The admissions are touted to continue up to December 9, 2020, as per reports.

While the Maharashtra government has stated that admissions to all courses will now take place without the 12 per cent of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission (SEBC) quota, it has also clarified through its recent government resolution (GR) that admissions under the SEBC quota that have already been confirmed before September 9 will remain intact.

Moreover, students who have applied under the Maratha quota can change category. In addition, all students can change college preferences up to December 1, 2020.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier given the nod to resume the admissions in the state after taking in opinion from the state’s Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, according to sources. The state officials had stated that the education department of the state has redrawn the seat matrix and all required clearances are now in place. While Maratha outfits remain keen on the implementation of the quota in college admissions from this year, the state government has decided that waiting for the stay to be lifted will be detrimental for the students.
