In recent developments, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has promised to start schools in the state.
Moreover, he added that he has started a campaign to complete the vaccination of teachers and non-teaching staff by September 5, which is Teacher's Day. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination of teachers in schools in the state is the first step in opening a school. For this, a decision will be taken to start the school after discussing with the task force and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
According to sources, Tope further clarified that the COVID-19 task force is considering whether schools can be started in areas not as affected by the second wave of the coronavirus. On the other hand, Child Task Force member Sameer Dalwai had informed about the same earlier.
Earlier on August 11, the Maharashtra government had announced a big relief to restaurants and malls by announcing an extension in timing. However, it had decided to postpone the reopening of schools. As per the earlier directive schools were scheduled to re-start from August 17. This decision was taken after a meeting of the COVID-19 Task Force on Wednesday.
Even earlier the task force had recommended not to open schools in the state, They had even suggested that the places of worship too should not be opened at the moment.
