The decision to start IIM in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, has been taken in the meeting of the Union Cabinet. It has been decided to start IIM (Indian Institute of Management) in Mumbai. This decision has been taken in the meeting of the central government held in Delhi. After the approval of this bill in the meeting of the Union Cabinet, now this bill will be approved in the monsoon session of the Parliament.


The National Institute of Industrial Engineering or NITIE in Powai, Mumbai has now been approved as an IIM. So now it is being said that admission will be given on about 350 MBA seats in IIM Mumbai. Also, IIM Mumbai will now be considered as the 21st IIM of the country and the second IIM of Maharashtra.

Studying in IIM is the dream of many students. For this, Mumbai students try to get admission in IIMs outside the state. But with this decision of the Central Government, now the students of Mumbai will be able to fulfil their dream of studying in IIM Mumbai. Being the financial capital of the country, Mumbai has always needed a top management institute like IIM. Also, from time to time, many big industrialists keep demanding a national level institute like IIM. Movements were started by the Central Government to consider this seriously and now this important step has been taken.

In February last year itself, a 5-member committee was constituted to convert NITIE Institute of Education, Powai, into an IIM in Mumbai. Ashish Kumar Chauhan, CEO of BSE and Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University, was appointed as the chairman of the committee. National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai is an autonomous institute established in 1963 by the Government of India.
