In a long-awaited move, the Maharashtra government is filling a backlog of vacant teaching positions in government-aided schools.

A list of over 5,000 qualified candidates has been released by the Department of Education. These candidates passed the Teachers Aptitude and Intelligence Test (TAIT) and the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).

This comes after a delay of more than six years. The delay in the hiring process was primarily due to legal issues. This has kept schools waiting for official approval since 2017.

The Pavitra Portal will be used by schools to conduct interviews for the available 763 positions in 196 schools from July 18 to August 19. The Pavitra Portal is a centralised system for teacher appointments. This Portal serves as a crucial platform for teacher appointments, streamlining the selection process across the state.

Once the interviews are conducted, the final appointments will be made based on the information submitted on the portal. Each candidate's suggestions for specific schools have been taken into account, and the state follows parallel reservation guidelines. Candidates are made accessible to these managements within the limit of 1:10 per seat.

Selection for the positions will be based on a point-based system. This will take into account interviews and teaching abilities, each carrying a weightage of 30 points. Moreover, subject expertise and reservation recommendations will also be factored into the final decision-making process.
