Now you can learn film-making, finance, medicine and many other programmes at IIT-Bombay as the Institute is introducing a variety of new academic programmes addressing the local industry and commerce in Mumbai.

In its plan to diversify its offerings, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) is introducing a variety of new academic programmes, including those in film-making, medicine, fine arts, finance, and commerce.

The proposed initiative is part of IIT-B’s ‘Strategic Plan (2017-22)’ - a document that provides a new vision, mission, and goals of the Institute for five years. Enhancing engagement with society and industry, broadening funding base and attracting international students and faculty are some of 10 goals that the institute has set for itself. The strategic plan was developed after consulting students, faculty members and other stakeholders at IIT Bombay.

The Institute is also looking forward to starting new undergraduate programs in existing disciplines as well as the disciplines not present in the institute. A master’s program in film-making is included in this plan as it’s considered relevant for the large film industry in Mumbai.

In order to strengthen the existing design education programmes, IIT-Bombay is also evaluating a new master’s programme in fine arts.

The Institute will also explore specialised programmes to cater to the needs of the commercial sector including programmes related to finance, commerce, corporate law, and data science.

The documents states that the Institute has built considerable strength in technology and science related to the healthcare sector with strong research programs in these areas, some of which are in collaboration with researchers in medical colleges.
