The BMC has stated that teachers will take their classes from home with the help of e-learning platforms until further orders amidst the rise in COVID-19 cases.

On Wednesday, March 17, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an order asking all schools in its jurisdiction to discontinue the 50 per cent rotational attendance rule from March 17.

Moreover, the civic body added that teachers will take their classes from home with the help of e-learning platforms until further orders. Due to the spike in cases of coronavirus, the BMC has directed all teachers of all mediums, all management, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation area to stay at home and take the online classes till further orders.

While working from home, teachers and non-teaching staff will be required to record their daily work in a Google sheet or worksheet. Furthermore, the headmaster or the school management committee has been empowered to make decisions in this regard; if the presence of teachers in the school is required for the distribution of food grains under the school nutrition scheme.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra government has ordered cinemas, hotels and restaurants to operate at half of the capacity until the end of March 2021. Moreover, weddings and other social events in Mumbai will also have limited attendance.

In addition, Mumbai reported four deaths and 1,712 fresh cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours. According to reports, Dharavi in Mumbai reported 21 COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day addition to the infection tally since October 2020. However, in the midst of rising COVID-19 cases, Mumbai authorities aim to vaccinate one lakh people per day.
