The National Testing Agency announced on Tuesday that the third and fourth session of the all-India engineering entrance exam, JEE-Main will be held between July 20-25 and July 27-August 2 respectively. Whilst originally set to be conducted in April-May, it was postponed owing to the second wave of the pandemic. The first and second sessions of the JEE-Main were successfully held in February and March’21.

Students have the liberty to appear for all four exams and their best scores are taken into consideration for rankings and admission purposes. According to the Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, this presents a golden chance for a candidate who was unable to apply earlier.

Registrations are open for fresh as well as applicants who had earlier registered for the April and May sessions who can make alterations in their applications. The number of students registered for the April and May sessions stands at 6.8 lakhs and 6.09 lakhs respectively. Candidates seeking to register for the third session are required to submit their forms between July 6-8, whilst those looking to appear for the fourth session need to do so by July 9-12, announced the NTA. Students, however, have voiced their discomfort, citing that the 2-day gap between sessions isn’t enough and are pressing for a 15-day gap instead. The third session caters to students of the B.E and B.Tech stream, while the fourth session addresses the B.Arch and B.Planning students.

In light of COVID, certain provisions have been made which includes an increase in the number of testing centres from 660 in 232 cities to 828 in 334 cities. On the other hand, open windows, fans are also advocated. Candidates who had registered earlier are also at liberty to change their city of appearing for the exams.

The JEE Main is not only an entrance exam for undergraduate engineering and architecture programs at National Institutes of Technology, central, state and private institutions but also an eligibility test for JEE-Advanced.
