KJ Somaiya And Thakur College Bag The 'Best College' Award

In an recently held award function organised by Mumbai University (MU), two colleges - KJ Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology in Sion and Thakur College in Kandivali - were awarded as the 'Best College in City' award. In the past years, H.R. College of Commerce, Jai Hind College and K.C. College were felicitated with this title.

Besides this, officials also gave away titles for other categories. Following is the list of awards conferred by Mumbai University: 

Best College In Rural AreasBNN College, Bhiwandi; Veer Wajekar Arts, Science and Commerce College, Phunde and JSM College, Alibaug
Best Principal AwardGanesh Thakur of Mahatma Phule College, Panvel and Murlidhar Kurhade of DTS College, Malad
Savitribai Phule Ideal Women TeacherManisha Bhingardive from Satish Pradhan Dnyanasadhana College, Thane 
Ideal Male Teacher Rahul Jadhav from Vidyavardhini's College in Vasai

Maharashtra's newly elected Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently announced that a budget of ₹200 Crores will be allotted to MU's Fort campus for its maintenance and beautification. These funds will be allocated to MU in installments over a period of four years. As the Fort campus is a heritage site, it serves as a destination for students, teachers and tourists alike.  

State Minister for Higher and Technical Education Uday Samant stated that the facilities provided to students should be improved and they should be provided with digital education system. There are two campuses of MU, and the second one is at Kalina, Santacruz, and Samant mentioned that this campus also needs to be maintained to propagate a holistic secure environment.

MU's Institute of Distance and Open Learning on Monday stated that they will now have two rounds of admissions in a year. Previously, students from IDOL had to enroll in the institute in the month of July/August which will now take place in the month of January also.
