The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recently stated that public universities and affiliated colleges across Maharashtra are lagging behind.

A report, mentioned 50 per cent of universities and only about 25 per cent of colleges in the state have a valid NAAC accreditation. However, Maharashtra still leads the country when it comes to the highest number of accredited institutions.

Meanwhile, in its 192-page analysis, the report stated, Maharashtra has the highest number of accredited HEIs next to Karnataka adding that the state has expended a great effort in the spread of higher education in pre-independent India. In addition, it stated that the state has tremendous scope for improvement in all parameters of higher education.

On the other hand, the University of Mumbai has been accorded an A++ rating from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The educational institution has received a 3.65 marking which was officially announced by the NAAC, stated reports.

The NAAC Assessment Committee in Bangalore had visited various departments of Mumbai University on August 24, 25 and 26. During the visit, the curriculum implemented by the university for academic progress, the performance of the university, infrastructure, governance, research, curriculum aspects and other matters were inspected. After that, Mumbai University received the rating by NAAC.
