Group education officers across the state have been instructing primary, higher primary, and secondary school principals to make changes to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) data. This directive is delivered via WhatsApp messages. It insists that principals mark "yes" in every column, regardless of the accuracy of the information.

However, some headmasters have refused to comply with the directive. They have cited concerns about misrepresenting their institutions. It also raises doubts about the credibility and transparency of educational statistics.

According to reports, some principals are really dissatisfied with the directives from the group education officer. They are questioning what pressure the administration is acting under.

In a report by the Hindustan Times, teacher and activist Bhausaheb Chaskar said that government representatives had previously instructed schools to give them favourable ratings. Furthermore, they are told to give a good rating every March 31 on the Shala Siddhi site, a platform for school leadership and management.

UDISE is a database created by the Maharashtra education ministry's department of school education. It contains essential information about schools in India. UDISE+ serves as a crucial tool for administrators and policymakers in the education field. It provides up-to-date and reliable data to allocate resources and formulate informed policies. This data is used for making policies and allocating resources.

Group education officers have not responded to the incident.
