Final year postgraduate medical students in Maharashtra were earlier asked to submit a dissertation by the end of December. However, in a recently revised decision, the officials have extended the deadlines and asked students to submit the same by end of April 2021. The information was shared by Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh on Wednesday, and the decision was taken keeping coronavirus (COVID19) outbreak in mind.
The meeting regarding the same was held at the Ministry under the leadership of Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh. Officials addressed various issues posed by the medical students and resident doctors of Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (Central MARD). Present at the meeting were Secretary of Medical Education Department Saurabh Vijay, Director of Medical Education Dr Tatyarao Lahane, President of Central Mard Association Rahul Wagh, Vice President Dr Satish Tandale, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Avinash Saknure, Secretary Dr Shriva Ranadive, and Dr Sharyu.
Addressing their issues, Minister Deshmukh said that the students can get an extension of six months to submit their dissertations. Students also demanded a refund in fees, since the classes weren't held in during these months, however, the same wasn't approved, and the minister has given them an option to pay the same in a three-month installment plan.
Students and staff members were not able to perform surgeries across various hospitals due to the pandemic, however, officials have now given them permission for the same, as per which medical colleges can resume surgeries from October 15, 2020.
