The Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department is considering a policy change that would allow MHT-CET scores to be used for admissions to undergraduate professional courses such as BBA, BCA, and BMS.

Under the proposed revision, students who have appeared for the MHT-CET exam may become eligible for admission to these programmes, alongside candidates who take separate entrance tests for each course. The move is aimed at widening the pool of applicants and addressing the issue of vacant seats in several colleges across the state.

Earlier, admissions to these programmes were based strictly on separate CET examinations after being classified as professional courses. However, this system has often led to delays in the admission process and lower student participation, resulting in unfilled seats in many institutions.

Officials believe that integrating MHT-CET scores into the admission process will streamline procedures and offer students an additional pathway into management and computer application courses. The proposed change is also expected to improve enrollment rates in affiliated colleges.

A formal government resolution detailing the revised admission framework is expected to be issued soon.
