Due to prevailing heatwave conditions this year, the Maharashtra government has preponed the summer vacations for all state board schools.
The state government has informed that the summer vacation for primary, middle and higher secondary schools of the state board to commence from today, April 21. It will remain closed till June 14. However, in Vidarbha, the schools would remain closed till June 30.
Clarifying further, the state government order stated that this is limited to only the schools affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, MSBSHSE. The schools affiliated to CBSE and other boards in the state may take actions.
This decision has brought major relief to many parents, teachers and students as well. Therefore, it is likely that other non-state board schools may follow the suit.
Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other neighbouring districts experienced heatwave conditions this week. Santacruz observatory in the metropolis recorded a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday, April 20, while Navi Mumbai sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday, April 19.
Besides, for the schools that are still continuing with the classes, the government has advised to take precautions to avoid any untoward incident due to excess heat. The schools must ensure mandatory water breaks for students, as well as proper access to drinking water. Also, avoid outdoor activities during the peak hours of the day.
A heatwave is declared when there is a departure of 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius from the normal.
