The Maharashtra State Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination for 2020 has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. As per the recent announcement, the exam will now be conducted on September 20, 2020, will be held not only in Mumbai and Pune, but at all the divisional centres in the state. This decision was taken to ensure safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, the earlier dates proposed for the exams were clashing with NEET 2020 exams which is usually taken by several students across the state. Having both the exams would have posed a difficult task for the members at the collector's offices, state some reports.

Assembly Speaker Nana Patole, on Thursday, August 13, 2020, held discussions with MPSC Chairman Satish Gavai and pointed out that due to the situation, candidates from other parts of the state would not be able to reach the examination venue as the train services were not functional, and this could add difficulty for the candidates. Hence the department agreed to conduct them across all revenue departmental centres in the state, and this is said to have brought great relief for students appearing in the competitive exam.

Exams will be conducted in two languages - English and Marathi - and will include negative marking. Around 200 vacancies will be filled across various departments, and candidates will have to appear for an interview round after clearing the preliminary examinations, which will include General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test.
