Mumbai University's Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Statistics students in the fifth semester have raised concerns over exam results. The students, who were expecting high scores, were taken aback when they received marks in the range of 40 to 50.

This sudden drop in grades is contradictory to their marks in the first two years, where many students scored above 80 and 90.

Subsequently, a group of 35 students from Matunga's DG Ruparel College penned a letter to the university. In the letter, they expressed their doubts about the grading scheme used in the October 2023 exams.

In their letter, the students suggested possible miscalculations in the marking system and requested a re-evaluation of their answer sheets. The students also urged the university to take immediate action and conduct a thorough review of the grading system.

Due to the lack of progress, the students sought the intervention of Aaditya Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena. The issue reported affects nearly 60 students pursuing a BSc in Statistics at the university.

Members of the Yuva Sena (UBT), along with the students and professors, met with Prasad Karande, the director of MU's Board of Examination and Evaluation.

According to reports, the statistics department first reported the issue to the university on December 13. The university is now reportedly addressing the issue after receiving the complaints from the students.
