The Maharashtra government has granted approval to many Mumbai colleges for academic changes from the 2026-27 academic year. Admissions must be carried out according to the government's approved admission process, and colleges cannot charge fees beyond those approved by the Fee Regulatory Authority.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the closure of around 55 engineering and technical colleges during the 2025-26 academic year.
The approvals come at a time when Maharashtra sees changes. Earlier this year, AICTE approved the progressive closure of several engineering and technical institutions across the country for the 2025-26 academic year. Maharashtra was among the states with the highest number of closures.
