The school staff in Mumbai will receive specialised training for the implementation of child safety regulations from January 10. Experts in child safety and rights will conduct the sessions. Each session will last three to four hours.

The session will cover topics like the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, mental health support for affected students, and implementing safety committees.

The Maharashtra Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) recently partnered with the Mumbai deputy director of education’s office to launch the "Bal Rakshak" campaign.

The training will include newly introduced measures such as forming Sakhi Savitri and student safety committees in schools. As per reports, the initiative will focus on increasing awareness among school staff to ensure student safety.

The initial phase of the campaign will target three regions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region: Mumbai North, Mumbai West, and the Vasai-Virar-Nalasopara area in Palghar. Schools in these regions will be the first to receive training.

As per reports, local education officers have been instructed to support the sessions. They will also ensure all schools actively participate in the campaign. The goal is to educate school employees about existing child safety rules and improve their application.

The Maharashtra government recently introduced updated child safety guidelines for schools. These include installing CCTV cameras on school premises and continuously monitoring footage. They also require parent involvement in planning safety measures.

This comes after a recent case of sexual assault involving students at a school in Badlapur. Despite these efforts, officials say there is still limited awareness about proper implementation.
