Uday Samant, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister, has announced an extension of three days for the students to submit their applications for the final-year examinations.

The period of submission has been extended to September 20. Moreover, 2,47,500 students are to appear for the examinations. Out of this, 1,70,000 are regular students while the rest of them are taking the backlog examinations.

Samant further added that Mumbai University, which has the highest number of final-year students will make all efforts to ensure that no student is left out of the process of examinations. A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Uday Samant regarding the final-year examinations. University Vice-Chancellor Shashikala Vanjari, professors and other staff members were present on the occasion.

As per the UGC guidelines, the state government has decided to conduct the examination in the first week of October and the results are touted to come out in the last week of October. However, most of the universities are focusing on taking the examinations online. This comes after the Supreme Court’s decision with regards to final-year examinations in which the apex court stated that the students cannot be promoted without giving exams and can seek an extension of the September-end deadline set by UGC to complete the process.
