In recent developments, according to information received from the Mumbai University through RTI, re-evaluation seems to play a crucial role with regards to value as it has raised crores in lieu of revaluation charges and photocopying fees.

As per reports, till November 2019-20, MU had received INR 2.8 crores from aggrieved students of the past semester. In 2018-19, the sum was INR 3.7 crores, higher than the previous year. With take-from-home online MCQ (multiple choice questions) exams, revaluation revenue would be zero for the exams conducted in the second half of 2020.

On the other hand, this year, amidst the pandemic, Mumbai University, which sees close to 2.3 lakh fresh students join each year, saw enrolment plummet by about 20 per cent. Moreover, amongst all the districts across the state, Mumbai saw the lowest drop in enrolment followed by Thane and Raigad. Overall, for the seven districts, enrolment in 2019-20 stood at over 2.2 lakh and the number of first-year admissions in 2020-21 was nearly 1.9 lakh.

In the past, colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai (MU) had asked varsity officials to revoke the March 10 deadline set to hold examinations for Masters programmes. Colleges said that the pandemic restricted them from conducting online lectures for five hours a day, thus making it nearly impossible to conduct exams in two weeks after classes were reopened. MU started the admissions counselling process for aided colleges on December 30, 2020, with students joining classes in January. However, in some cases, students joined classes on Jan 27 as per a teacher at an aided institution.
