Mumbai University IDOL: Admission procedure blunders put students in suffering

Mumbai University had formed the IDOL programme to assist students who were unable to attend regular lectures or were working along with their studies. The institute is a shelter of learning to more than 80,000 students every year in various courses.

Mumbai University shelters more than 6,00,000 students from various colleges affiliated to it. Recently, to assist these students and increase transparency in the functioning of the university, the apex university launched a mobile application, Mum e-Suvidha. However, when the students tried to access admissions for the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), the online procedure wasn’t completed due to technical issues.

Due to which, the students have been rushing to the Kalina campus to get a solution to the problem. However, the difficulty with the procedure is that August 31 is the last date to secure IDOL admissions and the students are panicking due to the deadlines.

Despite digitalisation of the admission process, the students still have to visit the campus in person, which makes the initiative of digitalisation useless. During the process, several students who applied online were unable to get the Permanent Registration Number (PRN) whereas some students paid the money but did not get the money slip of the payment. 

Mumbai University authorities when contacted, stated that four divisions have been set up for resolving the IDOL admission issues. Therefore, they said that the students should approach the divisions with their doubts and issues.
