Mumbai University Registrar Dr. Ajay Deshmukh passes away

Dr. Ajay Deshmukh was 54 and was suffering from cancer. He breathed his last on July 3, 2020, at his residence in Mumbai.

Mumbai University Registrar, Dr Ajay Deshmukh, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020. He was 54 and was suffering from cancer. He was undergoing treatment for the same over the last few months.

As per reports, he returned home a few days back but passed away on Thursday. He will be cremated on Friday, July 3, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Santacruz cemetery.

Deshmukh had a PhD in English and was appointed as the Registrar of Mumbai University in January 2019, and had succeeded Prof. Sunil Bhirud. He also served as the Registrar of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. Reports state that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Student Wing had demanded his ouster from his post due to allegations against him and wrote a letter to former Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao, who handed a clean-chit to Deshmukh.

Mumbai University was facing several challenges for a long time and Deshmukh took charge of the same and helped in solving many concerns. Reports state that he was actively involved in taking some decisions for the university even during the coronavirus outbreak.
