The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be conducting an online lottery for admissions to its first CBSE school in Jogeshwari and the first ICSE school in Mahim on April 30. The BMC Education Department has already directed the schools to make necessary arrangements for the online process.

After a nationwide lockdown was announced amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the civic body had to opt for an online process to begin the admissions for the ICSE and CBSE schools.

As the BMC has received over 2,154 applicants for 320 seats for its CBSE school and 343 applicants for 320 seats for ICSE school, it has decided to carry out admission process via a lottery system. Earlier, BMC had decided to conduct a lottery system in front of the parents between March 26 to March 28 but amid the coronavirus outbreak, it was postponed to April.

Meanwhile, the civic body will be sorting out application forms by April 27 and accordingly, will release a list of eligible students. The BMC education department will then send messages to the students who are selected. After which, they would have to fill a Google Form to proceed further. Selected students can confirm their admissions to the two schools by May 10. If there are less than 38 applications for any standard, the BMC will not conduct a lottery.

The first ICSE and CBSE schools will be at Mumbai Public School (MPS) school at Woollen Mill in Mahim and Poonam Nagar School in Jogeshwari respectively.
