The public universities will be holding their summer exams for 2020 after the lockdown is over. While the schedule for the same hasn't been specified, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant cleared the air about the exams and said that 'the exams have just been postponed, not cancelled.'

Samant had recently held a meeting via video conference with VCs of universities along with the CET Cell head. The exams for commerce, arts, and science stream may have been stalled but the professional courses usually start in May/June. Samant clarified that the exams will be held and just have been postponed amid the lockdown.

Talking to TOI, the vice-chancellors said that a common decision was taken that the exams will be held and for which, several tentative plans will also be drawn up to hold the exams depending on when the lockdown is eased.

That being said, the universities will also start lab facilities on campus to test for coronavirus. Currently, Swami Ramanand Tirth Marathwada University has begun the functioning of a lab for the same. Samant assured that these labs will be provided with any necessary permissions on a priority basis.

During the video conference, Samant also urged all varsity employees of the state to submit a day's salary to the Chief Minister's Fund which is being collected for the COVID-19 relief work.

While the University exams are set to be conducted after the lockdown is eased, the exams for CBSE schools and junior colleges barring Class X and XII have been cancelled. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had announced that all the students in classes I to VIII will be promoted to the next class without any examination. Alongside, all the students in class IX and XI will be promoted on the basis of their school-based assessments, projects, and periodic tests held before schools were shut.
