On Monday, November 9, student organization Prahar, which has been founded by Bacchu Kadu, Minster of state, sent a letter to Uday Samant, Minister of Higher and Technical Education, complaining about the “unlawful” appointment of five academicians as in-charge joint directors (higher education) for Nagpur, Mumbai, Amravati, Jalgaon and Aurangabad regions.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the student’s organization has alleged that the directorate of higher education had unlawfully appointed the five professors and associate professors as in-charge joint directors while they were still serving a two-year probation period.

Earlier, according to a December 30, 2019 letter from the department of higher education, Satish Deshpande (Jalgaon), Keshav Tupe (Amravati), Yuvraj Mhalge (Mumbai), Maheshkumar Salunke (Nagpur) and Digambar Gaikwad (Aurangabad) were instructed to continue as faculties in the institutes where they were appointed as professors and associate professors despite their appointment as in-charge joint directors. In view of the situation, the organization has demanded that these faculty members be relieved as soon as possible from the position of joint directors.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on November 7, directed all schools across the state to resume class for students of standard 9-12. Sharing more information about the same, he elucidated that the schools can resume post-Diwali. However, he added that the officials concerned should take adequate measures for the safety of the students.

The decision was taken at a meeting hosted by video conferencing in the presence of the State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, Minister of State Bachchu Kadu, Additional Chief Secretary Vandana Krishna among others.
