In view of class 10 and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination for class 12, teachers across Maharashtra have asked the state education department for more clarity on the conduct of the examinations which are likely to be held next year in the months of May-June.

On Saturday, December 26, in a letter addressed to the department, the BJP teachers’ cell said that there was a lot of uncertainty around the board exams this year. “The process for the filling of forms has begun for class 10 and 12 students but there is no clarity on the conduct of exams. The department has neither announced tentative dates for the exams nor has it released details on the paper pattern to be followed in the exams. We hope that the paper pattern is not changed because that might lead to unnecessary confusion amongst students,” Anil Bornare of the BJP Teachers Cell said in a statement.

In the last couple of weeks, several parents and schools have been writing to the department, requesting for clarity over the board exams. With a 25 per cent reduction in syllabus across classes, the educational institutions have stated that they are unsure about the paper pattern.

Meanwhile, Varsha Gaikwad, Maharashtra Education Minister, speaking to the media had stated that the class 10 and class 12 board examinations will be conducted in the offline mode only.

She further added that it would not be feasible to alter the pattern of the SSC and HSC examinations. Gaikwad, speaking about the dates for the same, said that the government is trying its best to conduct the examinations between the months of April and May. Usually, the board examinations are conducted in the months of February and March. However, most of the examinations have been postponed this year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
