Maharashtra's Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad, on October 22, 2021, hinted that primary schools in the state might also reopen soon, and that the local administrations of all the districts are positive about starting the classes in the state. Officials have stated that the concerned departments are emphasising on starting school again, however, the decision will be taken after discussions with the Chief Minister, the Cabinet and the Covid Task Force, Varsha Gaikwad said.

Minister Gaikwad took to Twitter to share the details which mentioned that a meeting was held with the chief officers of the Zilla Parishad. In these challenging times, the schools in Maharashtra are striving to educate children, and a district-wise review of the schools is being planned with the heads of all the Zilla Parishads to review the preparation, vaccination and other innovative measures.

Adding more, she said that the heads of almost all the districts emphasized on reopening the schools from class 1-4

Meanwhile, schools in the state reopened on October 4, after a year and a half, and this was celebrated all over the state. Offline classes for students from 5-12 have resumed and  the colleges have also started from October 20, 2021.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed that no spike has been reported in the number of COVID-19 cases among children, days after the reopening of schools in the city. Interestingly, the city has recorded a marginal drop in the number of cases despite ease in COVID-19 restrictions. According to the data, between September 14 and 30, 1,024 cases were reported in the 0-19 age group that went down to 732 cases between October 1 and 17, 2021.

On the other hand, 79 Municipal Schools Yet To Restart In-Person Classes For Grades 8 To 10. From an aggregate of 867 civic schools in the island city for grades 8 to 10, 788 have opened their premises for pupils.
