The Maharashtra government has announced that the circular exempting students up to class two from online teaching applies to the entire state and all the boards. The government said this to the Bombay HC on Friday.

However, many parents have complained that the schools have held online classes for pre-primary students. They have further stated that it becomes very difficult for a child to sit in front of a screen for that long.

In the past, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray had earlier given a nod to the SOP submitted by the education department. According to the SOP, the department had proposed online learning for up to class two students. Along with this, schools were also said to reopen in July in the COVID-19 free areas. The decision was taken in a video conference which was also attended by Varsha Gaikwad.

The school education department had earlier drafted an SOP for the educational institutes to follow during the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. According to the SOP guidelines, online classes had been suggested for the school going students. E-learning has been scheduled for higher classes. Since the approval had been pending before, the school's had done their own planning and arrangements.

The Principal’s association had earlier asked the schools to wait for a week or so as they stated that the education officials have asserted to share the SOP within a few days. However, educational institutes are not to reopen and teachers are to work from home until further instructions.

However, at the moment, as part of recent developments, students up to class two are exempted from online teaching which applies to all boards across the state.

Last month, the guidelines from the Home Ministry stated that the educational institutions can be expected to reopen after July after acquiring full consultations with all the stakeholders and the health ministry in question. According to the Right to Education Act, school going students from class one to five, cannot be detained if they fail.
