Students from Mumbai’s Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) recently informed that the administration had not decided to resume offline classes despite several requests being made, considering students’ inconvenience in mind. During the same time, concerned officials from TISS had informed that matters were being discussed and the decision was expected soon. Clarifying the issues, authorities had then added that the decision was taken keeping safety aspects in mind.

However, after discussion, the management on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, informed the students that the classes will resume at the campus, in an offline manner, however, in phases, where the priority batches will be given the first preference. In the first lot, students from graduating batches will be allowed.

Students will have to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, post which they will be allowed on the campus.

This will be implemented from January 2022, and necessary steps will be taken based on a report submitted by a special committee and the recommendations made by the team. Adding more, the management has mentioned that further announcements and changes will be made as per central government’s suggestions.

Despite state government’s decision to allow reopening of colleges, TISS has decided not to resume offline classes keeping safety aspects at hostels in mind since washrooms are shared and students will have to stay in limited spaces. However, now that the permissions are given, the administration will make arrangements to ensure safety as per guidelines. No rules have been given by the government for hostels and hence expert suggestions will be considered in this phased reopening.
