The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is considered as the basis for admission to more than 10,000 institutions in nearly 160 countries, is going to be a little easier now. The duration of the test has been reduced from three hours to two hours and the pattern of the exam has also been changed.


TOEFL is required for admission to 98 percent of educational institutions in America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. This test is used to test the English language ability of candidates whose mother tongue is not English for their placement in education, employment in English-speaking countries. The format of this test conducted by 'Educational Testing Services' has been changed from the coming session. The 'Independent Writing' question will now be in the form of 'Writing for an Academic Discussion'. 


Questions based on Reading and Comprehension have been reduced. So now the total duration of the test will also be reduced and this test of three hours will now be less than two hours. These changes will be effective from the upcoming session i.e. from 26th July. 

Interestingly, students who have already registered are also allowed to change the exam date till April 30. In the next few days the study material for the exam will be made available on the website free as well as paid.


Registration process made easy

The TOEFL exam registration process has been simplified. The final date of the result can be known immediately after giving the exam. Also, the candidate will be informed about the changes in the marks from time to time. There will be a separate help room for Indian students giving TOEFL, and this room will be open 7 days a week for twelve hours a day. Also now the students will be able to pay the exam fees in rupees form.
