Veteran Bollywood singer and music composer Bappi Lahiri, popularly known as Bappi Da, passed away in a Mumbai hospital today, February 15. He was 69 years old.

Bappi Lahiri is survived by two children, a son Bappa Lahiri and a daughter Rema Lahiri.

Lahiri, who popularised disco music in India in the 80s and 90s, was admitted at CritiCare Hospital in Juhu following multiple health issues. Bappi Lahiri was suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea and recurrent chest infection.

"Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight," Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, told PTI.

In April 2021, the singer had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. However, he recovered after a few days.

The singer's last appearance on the screen was with Salman Khan on reality show Bigg Boss 15, where he was promoting his grandson Swastik's new song 'Baccha Party'.

Lahiri's neighbour and fellow Bollywood veteran, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, was among the first to condole his demise.

Moreover, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Shehzad Poonawalla from the BJP and Ashok Lalla also tweeted their condolences.

Remembering him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah also expressed their condolences.

It is pertinent to mention that this another shocking news comes less than a fortnight after music icon Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92.
