After Ranu Mondal's video went viral on the internet, her life took a turn and changed for the best, as Himmesh Reshammiya offered the lady, a song in his film. It is now being said that a biopic is being made on Ranu Mondal, which may be titled 'Platform Singer Ranu Mondal'
As reported in IANS, National Award-winning Bengali actress Sudipta Chakraborty may play the titular character in the film and has confirmed that she has been approached for the same. However, she has not read the script and will only give a nod post the reading. Reports also state that journalist-turned-independent filmmaker Hrishikesh Mondal will be directing the film which will revolve around Ranu's journey from Ranaghat (West Bengal) to Bollywood.
The director has also given a confirmation regarding the film and has said that he has approached Sudipta Chakraborty as she is the best fit to pull off the character with perfection. He also added that people are curious to know about Ranu Mondal’s life and this film will highlight the power of social media in the present times.
Hrishikesh has also met Ranu Mondal and shared this experience by stating that the simple and sweet person Ranu comes from an educated family, loves music and has been singing right from her childhood. Further, he stated that Ranu has not asked him anything about the film and has rather cooperated with him, about the biopic. She may also be a part of the film as a guest appearance so that the audience also gets to know her side of the story.
As per the developments, parts of “Platform Singer Ranu Mondal” will be shot in Ranu’s hometown Ranaghat, while a few scenes will be shot in Mumbai. The team is currently waiting for Sudipta's confirmation, after which the remaining cast will be finalised. The film may go on floors by the end of October and is expected to hit theatres in February 2020.
