B-Town’s king Shah Rukh Khan attended the Magnetic Maharashtra convergence summit at MMRDA grounds (BKC), Mumbai and called for support from the government to provide facilities to make Mumbai the hub of media and entertainment. He also spoke about the efforts needed to develop media and entertainment facilities that will provide content for the globe.

Elaborating the subject of the summit, ‘Media: shaping the future of information and entertainment’, King Khan said, “Mumbai has a huge potential, and we are contributing to Indian cinema, but we are not producing much for the global entertainment sector, which we can. We need more cinema halls here which people can afford like China.”

Along with Shah Rukh Khan the other panelists present at the session were Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO at Viacom18, Arnab Goswami, founder Republic TV, Ritesh Sadhwani, film producer and Vijay Subramaniam, director of content at Amazon Prime Video India. All the panelists discussed the need for an organized media and entertainment industry in order to reach out to a larger number of audiences.

Discussing the issue further Shah Rukh mentioned that the era of digital platforms would decentralize the control of content creation. In near future, one would not need big production houses to tell a story. “All media platforms will have to collaborate and aggregate, as the content is not going to be created by the biggies of the industry anymore. Content is going to be created by people outside the industry. The government should help us with a platform and then we can serve as a provider of all kinds of content may it be Television, Films, Digital, etc. If the government wants to retain the ownership of being the hub of entertainment, as it always has been, that’s where the trillion-dollar part also comes in the picture,“ added the Superstar.

Finally, while signing off the session the actor requested the government to help the industry aggregate the content and become collaborated content providers.
