Matunga-based Yashwant Natya Mandir is a popular destination for theatre lovers in Mumbai, and over the last many years, the location has been a hub of Marathi plays. The auditorium is managed by the Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad, and as per recent reports, this iconic hub will soon be renovated to have a new look and feel.

The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday, September 28, 2020, by Natya Parishad President, Prasad Kambli, who confirmed that the new plan for the construction of the theatre will be made keeping the international standard in mind and will also include interesting amenities and facilities.

He stated that the theatres have to be repaired every few years. However, the decision to build a new theatre complex would incur a cost of crores, as the repair work would be extensive. Hence, an approval regarding the same was taken at the council's executive meeting on Monday. The announcement also confirmed that the new plan will also include a space for children's theatre along with other necessary features.

Special facilities have been planned for foreign visitors who come to learn the art form. Besides this, the plan includes an independent library and facilities for theatre training.
