According to reports, as of Wednesday, July 27, all seven water-supplying lakes in Mumbai had 88.28 per cent stock which is 12,77,787 million litres (ML). Mumbai reportedly requires 3,850 ML of water daily. Further, post the completion of the monsoon, 14,47,363 ML should be in the lakes which can be utilized till next year.
While the rainfall has been scanty over the past few days, the water stock in lakes has persisted at nearly 88 per cent. This is claimed to be higher than in the past three years.
However, considering a 12 per cent deficit and the presence of a dry spell, narratives speculate that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) could be compelled to reimpose the water cut that was earlier in force if the dry spell continues.
Based on accounts, Modak Sagar, Tansa, and Tulsi lakes are overflowing. Moreover, on a yearly basis, the BMC takes reviews of the water stock in October.
On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Mumbai will witness more light rain and a generally cloudy sky for the next 24 hours. It added that the city and suburbs may see thundershowers. The weather agency predicts that on Saturday, July 30, the city and suburbs will witness generally cloudy skies with a possibility of light rain.
Predictions claim that the maximum temperature in Mumbai and its suburbs will reach 31 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours and the minimum temperature will be around 25-26 degrees Celsius.
