On Friday, February 19, continual rain was reported in several parts of Mumbai such as Chembur and Vile Parle.

According to reports, rainfall was observed around 7:45 PM and continued for a couple of minutes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) further predicted rainfall or a light drizzle for the weekend as well.

Meanwhile, in the 24 hours ending 8.30 AM on Friday, IMD Colaba observatory reported no rain. However, the IMD Santacruz observatory reported trace rainfall. The minimum temperatures also remained above normal. In addition, Colaba and Santacruz observatories reported minimum temperatures of 22.4 degrees and 21.5 degrees respectively, which was two degrees and three degrees above normal.

As per experts, the rainfall happens to be a consequence of the cyclonic circulation over south Madhya Maharashtra and its neighbourhood, and a feeble trough in the low-level eateries which runs from north Kerala coast to south Gujarat. However, the air quality in Mumbai has reportedly improved in the last couple of days.

On the other hand, earlier on Monday, February 15, the air quality in Mumbai improved to "moderate" from "very poor" category. According to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the air quality index (AQI) of Mumbai was 159 and is predicted to remain in the moderate to the poor category for the next two days.

Moreover, the reversal of wind flow and rise in temperature is responsible for the improvement in the city's air quality. Mumbai's air quality had remained in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category since the beginning of January because of low temperatures.
