According to the Indian Meteorological Department forecast, the torrential rains that started from Tuesday continued till Wednesday morning. Due to this, the water level of most of the rivers in Thane district has increased significantly. A major rise in the water level of Ulhas river flowing through Badlapur city, Kalyan taluka and Ulhasnagar has been reported. Kalu river is flowing at warning level. If the rain continues like this, there is a possibility that the water level will rise rapidly.


This year, the rain started late in the month of July. On Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department had predicted the possibility of two days of heavy rain in the district and surrounding areas. Thane district has been receiving heavy rainfall since Tuesday. After Tuesday evening, the rain increased. The rain continued on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Due to this rain, most of the rivers and natural rivers in Thane district have started flowing.


According to the information given by the District Information Office on Wednesday morning, the Kalu river in the district is flowing at the warning level near the Titwala dam. The warning level of river Kalu is 102 metres. Kalu river was flowing from the level of 102.20 metres on Wednesday morning around 7 o'clock. The alert level of river Kalu is 103.50 metres. If the rain continues like this, the river Kalu is likely to flow above the danger level. Meanwhile, the water level of Ulhas river, which affects the rural areas of Badlapur and Kalyan talukas due to flood, has increased significantly in the last 24 hours.

The alert level of Ulhas river is 16.50 metres. So the danger level is 17.50 metres. At around 7 am on Wednesday, the Ulhas river was flowing at a level of 15.60 metres in Badlapur. On the same river, the river level recorded at Jambhul and Mohan has come close to the warning level. If such rain continues and there is heavy rain in Neral, Matheran and Karjat areas of Raigad district, there is a possibility of further increase in the water level of Ulhas river.
