The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to develop "bird-friendly" gardens in Mumbai and through the "conservation of birds" initiative, the civic authority will spot 50 gardens in the city where such parks can be made, reports stated. 

On Tuesday, December 28, during a meeting of Mumbai's biodiversity management committee, the initiative of planting native as well as fruit-bearing trees in civic gardens which will help attract more birds was discussed. According to reports, a Nashik-based NGO made a presentation. 

This NGO is reported to have ideated the bird park creation, installation of bird view feeders as well as nest boxes. For this discussed project, the civic body will not be shelling out any money since the expenditure will be taken through CSR funds by the NGO Nature Forever Societies, stated superintendent of gardens and secretary of the biodiversity committee, Jeetendra Pardesi, highlighted narratives.

According to Pardesi, birds are an integral part of augmenting biodiversity by pollination, accounts cited. He added that the NGO will be accorded space on civic gardens to curate biodiversity in order to attract birds.

The civic authority will now commence the process of identifying the gardens. Based on reports, there are nearly 600 gardens in the island city.
