Mumbai - Bombay High Court passed an interim order on Thursday, 9 February restraining BMC and MMRC from cutting trees for Metro - 3 line. Aarey Colony residents are against the MMRDA's proposal to cut trees to make way for a carshed depot for the Metro III project.
In connection with this Save Tree group met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. CM Fadnavis assured them that adequate measures will be undertaken to avoid cutting trees in order to set up carshed depot. A committee will be organised who will take the decision regarding the cutting of trees. Around 5,000 trees will be axed under the Metro-3 scheme. Pollution will mar the environment to a greater extent, that will hamper lives of the citizen. Save Tree is up in arms against MMRDA and MMRC in this decision of cutting trees.
