The city of Mumbai, which was lashed with heavy hail in early November, witnessed a dip in the temperatures which rose back up during the festivities.

As per reports, temperatures rose in many parts of the state with the maximum temperature being recorded at around 35 degrees. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the temperature to drop in North Konkan, Central Maharashtra and some parts of Vidarbha in the next 48 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to be below 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 14 to 18 degrees Celsius, as per IMD. As a result, the cold snap is likely to intensify once again.

Moreover, from December 20, the cold will intensify and the temperature is likely to drop below 5 degrees. Along with Mumbai, Pune's mercury is below 7 degrees Celsius, Nagpur's mercury is below 5 degrees Celsius whereas the temperature in Nashik district can reach zero degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s air quality index (AQI) was 142 (moderate) on Tuesday, November 17. Researchers said it was mostly due to higher temperatures and moderate wind speed. Mazgaon had the worst AQI of 310 (very poor). According to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), an AQI between 101 and 200 is moderate and poses a minor health risk to sensitive people. Just before the coronavirus-induced lockdown began, the AQI on March 18 was 172, and it dipped to 130 the next day. The AQI has been in ‘good’ to ‘satisfactory’ levels until recently, as per reports.
