The Bombay High Court remained firm on its decision of not letting the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) cut trees for the construction works of Metro 3.

On Friday, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited sought the court's permission, saying it had no other option left in order to go ahead but the court refused to give permission and has given the next date for hearing as 16 March.

To oppose the cutting of trees, the NGO ‘Save Tree’ had lodged a complaint against MMRC, and the hearing was fixed for 9 March. The court agreed with ‘Save Tree’ and asked MMRC about the impact of this deforestation and its effect on the environment.

MMRC said it does not have any other option apart from cutting the trees. MMRC said it would plant trees at other places, but the court did not accept MMRC’s plea.
