In the wake of Cyclone Gulab, Maharashtra is expected to witness heavy rains with strong and gusty winds over the next few days.
As the cyclone weakens into a low-pressure area and moves westwards, it will cause heavy to very heavy rainfall along with gusty winds in some districts including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and others.
According to officials, the cyclonic storm Gulab over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal moved nearly westwards with a speed of 18 kmph on Sunday, September 26.
Therefore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai for Monday, September 27 indicating heavy rainfall spells for the day. In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for Thane and Palghar, whereas an orange alert for Raigad.
However, Mumbai is more likely to be affected by Cyclone Gulab on Day 2, September 28, as the city is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Moreover, an orange alert for Mumbai on Tuesday, September 28, has been issued, which is when the Konkan region is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain.
Meanwhile, neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad are on red alert, with a warning of extremely heavy rains in isolated places, for tomorrow, September 28.
