Tremors felt in Mumbai after earthquake hits Palghar in Maharashtra

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale hit the Palghar district at 11:00 am Friday. No casualty or damage reported.

The earthquake series at Palghar just doesn’t cease to end. In the Dahanu area of Palghar district, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 4.3 on the Richter scale. This earthquake was felt at Umbergaon, Silvassa, and Vapi in Gujarat.

According to local people, there was an earthquake at around 11:15 am. Seismic shock has resulted in cracks in several houses of Talasi taluka and apart from this, railway tracks have also been damaged and local people said that at least 5 to 6 earthquake shocks have occurred since Thursday night.

Scientists of the National Center for Seismology (NCS) are surprised by the seismic waves recorded in a permanent seismic observatory in Palghar district of Maharashtra from November 11, 2018. There were more than 10 earthquakes of magnitude 3 in Talasari taluka and the first earthquake was experienced in the area on November 11, 2018, followed by more than 40 earthquakes in the area till date.

February 1, 2019 experienced the magnitude of 3.6 and tremors were felt in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of the district which proved to be fatal for a 2-year-old who injured her nose. The government offered ₹4 lakh compensation to the girl’s family.

According to the scientists of the National Center for Seismology, after all these jolts, people felt a lot of low-intensity aftershocks. In order to monitor this seismic activity, the NCS has set up a temporary field station at Vedanta Hospital. While temporary field stations have been established in Dongripada and Talasi.
