Smouldering clouds and heavy rain showers took over Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on July 3. It seemed like the monsoon season had finally begun in the city. The first week of the month witnessed one of the rainiest spells over the city. The rainfall in the city even surpassed its monthly average and infact crossed the 1,000 mm mark as recorded by the Colaba and Santacruz observatories. However, this only lasted for a few days.

According to Skymet, the weather forecasting body, the past four days saw spot and patchy rain showers over Mumbai and its suburbs. The temperature has significantly increased, even in the night time and the weather condition has once again become sultry and humid. As per the data shared by the weather forecasting body, moderate winds from the west and south west directions are likely to continue over the coast of Maharashtra, including Mumbai. The data also suggests that there is a possibility of a cyclonic circulation to develop over north madhya Maharashtra and the adjoining north Konkan at mid tropospheric level around July 13th.

Skymet also stated that between July 13 to July 15, the combination of these weather conditions may increase the rain activities over Mumbai city as well as the northern coast of Maharashtra. A few intense rain spells are also deemed possible during this time.

Extreme or heavy downpour, which may lead to flash flooding or any kind of waterlogging is not expected in the city. However, on and off rain showers and a cloudy to an overcast sky is expected to give Mumbaikars some relief in the coming days.
