Cleanliness and health have been an important part of Navi Mumbai, and the district, over the years, has been appreciated for maintaining cleanliness standards consistently. With an aim to continue sharing the message, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, in a recently taken decision, announced the new initiative called ‘Plog Run’ and the first event will kickstart from Vashi.

As per reports, citizens will be encouraged to participate in the same and spread the message regarding cleanliness and the same has been organized as a part of the Swachh Survekshan campaign for 2022. Besides the Plog Run, the municipal corporation has also organized other events and activities like a jingle contest and showcasing a short film contest.

Participating citizens will be expected to jog in the run and also pick up plastic waste on the way. Similar event was held previously where over 200 citizens participated in one kilometer run organized in Sector 3 and 9 and collected over 210kg of plastic waste.

A report regarding the upcoming event was shared in the Hindustan Times, which quoted the NMMC commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, who said, “While jogging is a good exercise, the participants have to sit, bend and resort to other such positions to pick up the plastic garbage. Such actions promote physical fitness and keep one healthy. We have planned a plog run in every node of the city, with at least one being held every week.”

Participants interested in making a short film will have to choose one out of the three topics and shoot in the NMMC jurisdiction. Submission will have to include two-to-five-minute film before December 27 and the same will be screened on December 30, 2021. The topic can My City – My Participation, Plastic-free Navi Mumbai or 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Meanwhile, participants in the jingle contest will have to submit a Marathi jingle of one-to-three minute duration on the topic Swachh – Sundar Navi Mumbai.
