Gorai and Dahisar will soon have new mangrove parks that protect and showcase the untouched mangrove belts in both areas. The Gorai park is almost complete and is expected to open on November 15. Construction at the Dahisar site is still underway and will take more time.

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is building a tourism area in Gorai, while the Mangrove Cell is developing both mangrove parks. Union Minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal is closely monitoring the work. He reviewed the progress in a high-level meeting held in Borivali earlier this week.

In Gorai, an urban ecological park themed around mangroves is coming up near the dock. The cost of the project is about INR 30 crore. The park will focus on mangrove conservation, ecotourism, and public education. Visitors will learn about carbon storage, biodiversity, and coastal protection. The park also includes an 800-metre raised wooden boardwalk built to move through the mangrove forest.

Government officials said no mangroves were cut or damaged for the boardwalks. At the Dahisar plot, 0.93 hectares of the 30-hectare mangrove area will be opened to the public. The cost of this park is INR 80 crore. Work started in April this year. It is expected to finish in two years.

The park will run parallel to Metro 2A along the Link Road. It will include a 400-metre circular walkway, an observatory, a crab pond, a floating jetty, and kayak routes that will connect Dahisar and Gorai.

The Gorai tourism hub will include museums of vintage cars, wax figures, and historical events. Plans also include an aquarium, a tent city, a luxury hotel, and an adventure centre through a public-private partnership model. A compound wall is being built around the upcoming centre.

Work is underway to build a compound wall around 5,400 metres of the 6,500-metre boundary. The remaining land is being cleared of encroachments.
