As heavy showers in Mumbai soaked the western suburbs on Wednesday, September 28, during the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on September 28, has hinted a possibility of light rains and thundershowers for next 48 hours in the city.

While the city woke up to bright and sunny day, the weather department has predicted cloudy sky in Mumbai and its suburbs along with Thane.

On the other hand, Skymet Weather forecast stated that Mumbai will see some rains on a daily basis, light to start with today, September 29, becoming slightly moderate tomorrow, September 30. Whereas, a day after tomorrow, October 1, there may be some intense spells as well.

“Rains will continue as the merger of wind pattern of anti-cyclonic winds and the winds from Bay of Bengal's Circulation will result in more rains. Thereafter also, as another system from Vietnam and Thailand will come into Bay of Bengal and merge with the present system, it will result in some more rains and showers may continue for at least until October 1 as well over Mumbai,” exclaimed Skymet officials.

According to reports, in this month, so far, the city has received 557 mm of rainfall which is more than 40 per cent as the average rainfall for September is 383.5 mm.

In June, Mumbai received 292 mm of rain, 1,244 mm in July, and 552 mm in August.

The total stock in the seven lakes, which supply water to the city, on Wednesday morning stood 14.27 lakh ML or 98.64 per cent of the requirement. For getting filled to the brim, the lake levels need 20,000 ML more.

On Thursday, September 29, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.1 degrees Celsius and 31.2 degrees Celsius at IMD’s Santacruz and Colaba observatory, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius and 26.4 degrees Celsius respectively.

IMD has forecast a monsoon retreat in Mumbai and neighbouring cities between October 5 and 10.
