Meanwhile, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and North Raigad. If IMD is to be believed, the said areas will witness heavy rainfall in next 24 hours.

The heavy rains also affected Monsoon session of Maharashtra assembly. While the session was on, water logging was reported in the assembly, followed by a power cut.

School and colleges declared a holiday

Considering the heavy rains, state education minister Vinod Tawde declared a holiday for schools and colleges.

He also extended the admission of FYJC by one day.

Today was supposed to be the last day, but due to heavy rains, teachers and students did not turn up in colleges. Due to this, Tawde extended the admission date till Tuesday 5:00 pm.
