The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave in parts of Maharashtra, Konkan region for the next 48 hours on Tuesday, February 21. Similarly, Mumbai is also expecting a raise in temperature in the next 48 hours, experts stated.

KS Hosalikar, an IMD official, stated that temperature is likely to go above 37 degrees Celsius in Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri.

In addition to that it has come to light that the humidity levels of the city are also decreasing, reports exclaimed.

The city on Saturday, February 18, clocked maximum temperature of nearly 38 degrees Celsius. With this, Mumbai witnessed an unusual heat so far in the month of February. 

Meanwhile, as per IMD's Santacruz and Colaba observatory today, February 21, the minimum temperature saw a slight drop below 20 degrees Celsius at 19.4 and 22.5 respectively. On the other hand, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.7 and 31.4 degrees Celsius at both the observatory.

Air Quality in Mumbai

According to reports, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has consistently ranged between poor to very poor. 

Mumbai's AQI stood at 215 as on 9 am today, February 21, putting it in the 'poor' category as per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

Colaba (189), Worli (179) and Sion (200) areas of the city reported moderate AQI. Besides, the index was reported to be poor at 313, 316 and 328 in Thane, Navi Mumbai and Deonar respectively.

According to SAFAR air quality meter, from 0 to 100, AQI is regarded as good, from 100 to 200 as moderate, from 200 to 300 as poor, from 300 to 400 as extremely poor, and from 400 to 500 or more as severe.
