As Mumbaikars woke up to partially cloudy skies, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its five-day forecast has issued yellow alert, which indicates heavy rain at isolated places, for parts for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for this week.

Clarifying further, the weather department stated that this week, starting Monday, September 12 till Thursday, September 15, Mumbai is expected to see rain activity on all days, though this may be without thunder.

On the other hand, the Skymet weather tweeted that three-digit rainfall figures could not be ruled out in the city till Thursday.

In addition, it also predicted increased rainfall activity across Maharashtra till September 14. The department noted that the withdrawal of monsoon is not likely till this weekend.

For parts of Raigad and Ratnagiri, an orange alert has been issued, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places being very likely.

In the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday, rainfall recorded by the Colaba and Santacruz observatories were 1.2mm and 8.8 mm, respectively. Current meteorological conditions giving the city rain and thunder include a cyclonic circulation over east central Arabian Sea off the south Maharashtra-Goa coastline.

Besides, the IMD has also issued a warning for fishermen owing to squally weather with wind speeds 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph being very likely along and off north Maharashtra's coast on Monday. Fishermen have hence been advised not to venture coastwards.
